Carignano palace
Description
In 1679 from the project of Guarino Guarini begins the construction of Palazzo Carignano at the behest of Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy-Carignano.
Una typical construction of the seventeenth century which opened onto the gardens composing two wings, the “Midnight” one to the north and the “Mezzogiorno” one to the south, characterized by the sinuosity of the façade and the preciously worked brick cladding.
In 'nineteenth century the body of the building was enlarged by Domenico Ferri, creating a new imposing façade in a pseudo-Renaissance style.
A symbolic place of Savoy history and the Italian Risorgimento, Palazzo Carignano hosted the birth of Carlo Alberto and Vittorio Emanuele II, and was then the seat of the Subalpine Parliament and the first Italian Parliament.
Today the palace retains its charm and it is possible to visit the National Museum of the Risorgimento on the main floor while the ground floor houses the Apartments of the Princes of Carignano: the Mezzogiorno Apartment and the Midnight Apartment.
